Take a moment and let this sink in, 120 times zoom, in a smartphone. Yes! Xiaomi gives 120x zoom in their latest flagship Mi 10 Ultra. Who knows “Zoom” would be the most successful keyword during the year-2020 pandemic. First, it was the Zoom Video Meeting system and now the Zoom system within the smartphone. How good or bad they are is an entirely different discussion.

Xiaomi is not holding back their punches on their 10th anniversary. Their aim is clearly at the competition sitting on top of the pie. Xiaomi has gone all-in with everything they have been cooking in their labs, except for in-display front-facing camera everyone has been eagerly waiting for.

After the quality of the camera itself for video and then for photos, the zoom in smartphone is very important for my work.

Some rumors stated that there will be 120-megapixel camera in Mi 10 Ultra. No, Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra does not have 120 mp camera, but they do have the large 1/1.32-inch camera sensor. I think it is the largest so far?

Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra Camera Specs

The primary camera is 48MP 1/1.32-inch Quad-Bayer sensor, 25mm-equivalent lens with f/1.85 aperture, PDAF, and OIS

2x Optical Telephoto is 12MP 1/2.56-inch sensor, 50mm-equivalent lens with f/2 aperture, Dual-Pixel AF

5x Optical Telephoto is 48MP 1/2-inch Quad Bayer sensor, 120mm-equivalent (5x optical) lens with f/4.1 aperture, PDAF, and OIS

Ultra-wide Lens is 20MP 1/2.8-inch sensor, 12mm-equivalent lens with f/2.2 aperture, PDAF

Zoom in Competition

100 times space zoom from Samsung was unusable for photo and video. It was all right for referencing something in distance. Samsung restrained themselves going those lengths in Note 20 Ultra and limit their zoom to 50x, with reasonable quality.

Zoom in Huawei P40 Pro+ produces decent results and Huawei Mate 40 series, which is about a couple of months away from its showdown, might add some numbers in their outreach.

But Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra, in August 2020 has smashed the competition so far. Samples of their 120 times zoom are alluring. They are not perfect at that stretch, but they are far better compare to available options.

I am still leaning onward results of non-zoom photos from Huawei.

Xiaomi scored 130 on DXOMark for their camera. I was sharing my thought but it is better if you hear the rest from them and read even more details with more camera samples on the following link:
